Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ page). Below, we have tried to answer the most common questions visitors to our Web site may have. If you find that your question is not answered on this page, call us on 01332 298130.
How can I arrange to use the Contact Centre?
Referrals can be made by Solicitors, Mediators, Social Services etc, or by parents themselves; the latter are called “self-referrals”. If you think you want to self-refer please see the Referrals section of this web site or call us on 01332 298130.
How long does it take to get the first appointment?
Usually between 2 and 3 weeks from when we receive the completed referral form and fee. You cannot start to use the Centre until you have received a letter from us giving you the dates and times of contact visits, and you must come at the agreed times.
Can I bring another relative or a friend with me to see the child?
No, unless it has been previously agreed and confirmed by all parties. (See Our Rules)
I don’t want to have to see the other person involved
That’s fine. If you let us know we can make arrangements to hand over the children without you having to meet.
Are we being spied on?
No! That’s not what we’re here for. We do have to make sure everything’s alright, obviously, and if there’s trouble we have to deal with it. We don’t make reports to anyone, except that the Courts, solicitors and other people directly involved can ask us for a copy of the attendance register relating to a particular contact.
Are you Social Services or what?
Nothing like that. We’re a totally independent charity, sponsored by Derby City Centre Churches. However, we are not affiliated to any church, and we accept people of all faiths and beliefs, or none. All our staff are volunteers, and we have our own management committee.
